The project “Connecting Communities” wishes to integrate individuals with different forms of embodiment and backgrounds that wouldn't normally meet, it is a contemporary dance initiative open to everyone and focused on the lived experience of disability. Linda Waldhoff and Juan Urbina (dance artists and teachers) organise project weeks on different societal topics. Since 2019, participants of this project engage workshops and in the co-created of dance performances at MuM Mehrgenerationenhaus & Mütterzentrum e.V. Münster, Germany, and Die Werkstatt für Behinderte Lippstadt GmbH in Lippstadt. The local communities of these places come together to create uplifting memories and embodied sense of community. The aim of the project is to create spaces where disabled communities and allies can meet with dancing as a common interest. In addition, themes such as inclusion, access and borders are brought into dialogue. We ask ourselves questions like: Within which framework do we move? What are our perspectives on society and how do we see inclusion? Participants of this project don’t need any previous dance knowledge, as we strive for an art form that is for everyone regarding on their background and forms of embodiment.
